A-Side: The men of RamRugby started slow last weekend at the annual Jackalope Tournament held in Laramie, WY. The first opponent was Wyoming who came out firing and got up early on the good guys. Come half-time, CSU began to wake up and smell whatever it is you smell in Wyoming. They fought their way back into the game with back-to-back tries but due to the shortened halves (20 minutes) they were out of time when their momentum peaked, and lost the match 32-21.
Their second game was against a much more formidable opponent in the Airforce Academy. CSU came out with fire in their eye and withstood long periods of Zoooooomieeeeeeee attack. After showing great heart it eventually became too much with the Airforce running away with the game by a few tries. A much improved effort from the good guys however.
Desperate for a win, CSU had a new found focus in their third and final game against UNC. Due to a strong platform the forwards laid down up front the backs were able to greatly benefit-- running rampant all over the field. Due to the strong attack and defense many men were able to cross the white line with a final score of 50ish-0.
B Side: Despite losing all three games of the day, CSUs B-Side was very impressive in many regards. Considering there were times when 14 of the 15 men on the field were playing in the first ever rugby games, and most of the guys had only ever had one rugby practice prior to the weekend, they did a magnificent job. They didn't get much ball throughout the day but when they did they capitalized, and when they didn't they attacked in defense showing great tenacity. Look forward to hearing about CSU B-Side wins in the future!
MOTM: Man of the match for CSUs A-Side went to Robert Newell for the day. Congratulations on your first ever try, and receiving jersey washing honors!
